Like the Stars of the Heavens in Number : Star Differs from Star : The Statutes of the Heavens : The Circle of the Earth
Introduction
This article sets out examples from Watchtower publications that illustrate the following claims:
- The Watchtower Society takes a dim view of science when it points to conclusions different from the Society’s interpretation of the Bible.
- When science supports the truth of the Bible, the Society uses the information to show that the Bible is an inspired book.
- When science does not support the Society’s interpretation of Bible, the Society obscures or omits information that should be brought into consideration.
- The Society’s writings show a lack of understanding of certain scientific matters.

The Design of Life
The argument is often made that "the design of life requires a Designer."The Society’s articles on this subject in the October 8, 1982 Awake! do a nice job of explaining the idea. One point of the article is that Genesis 1:29, 30 shows vegetation was the only food of man and animals at the time of man’s creation. The scripture says:
And God went on to say: "Here I have given to you all vegetation bearing seed which is on the surface of the whole earth and every tree on which there is the fruit of a tree bearing seed. To you let it serve as food. And to every wild beast of the earth and to every flying creature of the heavens and to everything moving upon the earth in which there is life as a soul I have given all green vegetation for food."And it came to be so.
When the design argument is considered, we are compelled to conclude that some animals have always eaten meat. (Does a tiger seem designed to graze on grass?) This in turn means either the Awake! article’s interpretation of Genesis is wrong or the scripture itself is wrong.

The essay linked here (Weighed and Found Wanting) was written specifically to address the new creationist brochures that were put out by the Watchtower at this year's District Convention. The goals of the essay are the following:
- Explain the fundamentals of the philosophy of science so that people can understand why creationism (specifically the Watchtower's chosen flavor) is not science
- Refute the various claims the Watchtower makes regarding science (exposing out-of-context quotes, correcting logical errors, and pointing out scientific errors)
- Explaining basic concepts about how evolution works, the current state of abiogenesis research, and why philosophical design arguments used by the Watchtower fail
The whole thing is thoroughly referenced to both the Watchtower's original sources (to show their dishonest quotations) and the relevant scientific literature so, as the WTBTS would say, "You can check the context."
